Volunteer of the Month for July

Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers is pleased to announce our Volunteer of the Month for July 2018 is Bobbie. When she is volunteering at the Mesa office on Arbor Avenue, you can find her bringing smiles to patients’ faces with a hug and meaningful conversation.   Her sense of humor and wit engage everyone around her.  We congratulate Bobbie on being our Volunteer of the Month!

Interesting Facts about Bobbie

She’s a snowbird from Washington State that is braving her first Arizona summer so she can spend time with her uncle.  Volunteering has been a part of Bobbie’s life for a long time and it doesn’t look like that will change anytime soon.  She was a regular volunteer in her daughter’s classrooms for years.  She’s a member and volunteer of the Tri-Cities Cancer Guild and has helped with food drives like Second Harvest in Washington.

Her expertise in embroidery has allowed her to help others one stitch at a time.  She’s taught machine embroidery at a women’s prison and once made 100 quilts in three days with Project Linus.

Bobbie’s daughter Jessica is also a volunteer at our Scottsdale office and was the volunteer of the month for June 2018!

Her dog Blackjack is trained in emotional therapy with Love on a Leash.  She and Blackjack are frequent visitors of chemotherapy rooms, assistant care homes, public libraries where children were encouraged to read to them, and VA Hospitals in Washington.  Let’s hope that we get a chance to meet Blackjack very soon!
