Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers Featured on Sonoran Living, Sharing Insights into Lung Cancer Advances and Treatments

During Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Davis Romney, Radiation Oncologist, and Dr. Rajesh Kukunoor, Medical Oncologist, shared groundbreaking insights into advancements in lung cancer treatments on ABC15’s Sonoran Living, highlighting the strides in care and awareness.


Davis A. Romney

Romney HeadshotDavis A. Romney, MD joined Ironwood Cancer and Research Centers in December of 2013, after previously serving as the director of the East Valley Center of Arizona Oncology Services in Mesa for 4 years. An Arizona native, Dr. Romney completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona and attended medical school at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA.

He is trained and experienced in 3-D conformal radiation therapy, IMRT, IGRT, SBRT, TomoTherapy, GammaKnife, and I131 thyroid ablation, as well as LDR and HDR brachytherapy, including prostate seed implants and breast brachytherapy. Dr. Romney is board certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology, specializing in breast, gynecologic, lung, head & neck and thyroid malignancies. He has been selected by his professional peers as a Top Doc in PHOENIX Magazine.

He is married to his wife, Tanja, and they have 5 children. In his free time, Dr. Romney enjoys spending time with his family, playing softball, running marathons, traveling, and participating in this children’s school and recreational activities.

Rajesh N. Kukunoor, MD

ImageDr. Kukunoor serves as the Director of Lung, Head & Neck Oncology Division at Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers. His clinical practice is focused on Lung and thoracic malignancies, Head and Neck and genitourinary malignancies (prostate, kidney, bladder, testicular) and hematologic disorders. He has a keen interest in targeted therapeutics and the quickly evolving landscape of precision oncology.

He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Wayne State University in Detroit and fellowship training in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. “It’s the very special bond between a physician and patient that attracted me to Oncology,” Dr. Kukunoor says. “It’s also important to me that oncology is one of the most evidence-based subspecialties of medicine.”

Dr. Kukunoor serves as adjunct faculty, Assistant professor at Creighton University School of Medicine. His teaching experiences with rotating medical students help keep him up to speed on the latest research. He is a investigator on several clinical trials through the Ironwood Research program and actively seeks novel treatment options for his patients. He has been selected by his professional peers as a Top Doc in PHOENIX Magazine. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, downhill skiing, scuba diving and karaoke.
