Breast Cancer Risk Factors
Breast Cancer Risk Factors
Dr. Zabita Singh is a medical oncologist that treats patients with breast cancer. Breast cancer risks and prevention are common questions asked by her patients and families. A risk factor is a characteristic that an individual possess that increases their probability of getting a disease. Dr. Singh says, “There are well known factors for breast cancer such as a family history, but not all patients have them. Furthermore, some patients with all several risk factors never develop breast cancer. For women over 40 that don’t have risk factors for breast cancer, it is typically recommended to have mammography and other recommended screenings for breast cancer once a year or every other year. Women with certain risk factors may be recommended for more robust and frequent screening.”
